Pomerene Hospital is hosting its annual Memory Garden “Memorial and Butterfly Release” on Sunday, June 23rd. Family members, friends and the public are all welcome. The memory garden is located behind the Amish House and employee parking lot.
Musical prelude begins at 2:30pm followed by the Ceremony at 3:00pm. The Ceremony will include special vocal and instrumental music performed by Margot
Steiner and Amber Buchwalter, a message from Pomerene CEO, Tony Snyder and a devotional by local pastor, Rev. John Baich. A placement of memorial stones
and the release of 50 painted lady butterflies by families who have experienced an infant loss will follow. The event will take place rain or shine
and those attending will be shaded under a tent. A dessert reception will immediately follow.
The memory garden, which was completed in 2013, serves as a place where families can remember their loved ones, with special emphasis on infants and children
who have passed away. There is a gazebo with seating, a water feature, and beautiful flowers to enjoy
The memory garden is a part of Pomerene Hospital’s bereavement program called “Lifting Hearts.” The program addresses individual needs of families who
have experienced an early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or infant death. It promotes an interdisciplinary approach to reach out to grieving families
from the moment their baby passes through the period of grieving.
For more information on the memorial and butterfly release, please call Pomerene Bereavement Coordinator Toni Mishler at 330-231-8530.
