Pomerene Hospital Statement on Ebola

Pomerene Hospital Statement on Ebola

On Thursday, October 15, 2014, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified the Ohio Department of Health that a second healthcare worker in Dallas had tested positive for the Ebola virus.  This healthcare worker visited family in Akron, Ohio from October 8-13.

Pomerene Hospital is working together with the Ohio Department of Health, the Holmes County Health Department, and other local agencies to take appropriate safety measures in the event an individual with symptoms of Ebola is identified in our community.

We are educating our employees on the Ebola virus and proper safety procedures related to the use of protective equipment.  Appropriate staff members have been effectively trained on how to handle an Ebola case should one present itself at our hospital. We have obtained the supplies necessary to handle an Ebola case.

In addition to staff readiness, we have posted signs at hospital entry points to make staff, patients and visitors aware of the symptoms of Ebola, and patients are being screened when coming to the Emergency Department or admitted to the hospital.

Pomerene will continue to watch this issue closely and take any necessary steps to keep our staff and community safe. Thank you.
