Pomerene Hospital has an open visitation policy. Your baby’s father, or a support person of your choice, may remain in your private room throughout your stay.
Visitor Meals: Guest trays are available for your spouse or support person for a small fee. Please inquire at the nurse's station. The cafeteria is also available.
Caring For Yourself and Your Newborn
Your nurse will provide you with information to help you care for yourself and your new bundle of joy. We have various booklets and teaching films available to you during your stay with us. We encourage you to participate in your baby's care.
We may have other resources available to suit your special needs. Please ask your nurse if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help you and your new family.
Rooming in facilitates early recognition of infant readiness to nurse with the breastfeeding mother. We encourage you to keep your baby with you during your stay so you can become better acquainted. Be sure never to leave your baby alone even for a moment. Return the baby to the nursery when you go to the shower or visit another mother on the floor. The nursery is available for your baby at any time upon request.
Our social worker may provide assistance for you as well as your family. Please call the nurse if you wish to contact the social worker.
Local calls may be made at any time from your room. Long distance calls will need to be made with a calling card or you will need to call collect. You may use your cell phone in the hospital.
Newborns do possess some immunity from infections, but care must still be exercised. Please tell any visitor not to handle your baby without first thoroughly washing their hands. Please also ask those with colds, diarrhea, open sores with discharge, or any contagious disease such as chicken pox or measles to refrain from visiting.
